A letter to my 14-year old self

Dear 14-year old Sheryl,

This is going to be hard to believe but this letter is from you, 15 years in the future. No, really. This isn’t a prank so just read on..

As your 30-year old self, there are things that I want you to know about your future.

Brace for what’s ahead coz your life is one hell of a ride. You will go through ups and downs but I promise that you will come out of this wiser and happy.

I know you don’t like what you see in the mirror. Your skin has breakouts, your haircut is short and weird,  and the kids in school tease you about your big-bustedness  Trust me, this is just a phase. You will be happy to know that later in life, you will grow your hair long and wavy just the way you want it. Your pimples will be gone and your skin will still be fine by the time you reach the age of 30.  You will also start wearing contact lenses very soon to replace those big glasses and your transformation kind of starts from there! And the big bust they tease you about – don’t worry about it. A few years from now, those same kids who tease you will wish that they have it.  And sooner in life,  you will be thankful for it, ha ha!  You must be writing on your diary about your crush again and how he never pays attention to you. If it gives you any comfort, you will be happy to know that years from now, he’ll be very interested in you but you will be very occupied dating other hot men. I know it sounds far-fetched but trust me, it’ll happen. After all, I am you from the future.

My advice at this point in your life is for you to stop picking your zits and you may wanna start watching your diet starting today. You don’t seem to get any bigger  no matter how much you eat but your gluttony will start to backfire by the time you hit college. Try your best to stay slim!

I know it sounds impossible now but you will go through a life of rebelliousness in highschool. You will be a wild child in college. Cherish these moments. It’s okay to be wild and crazy, you are just young once. Enjoy! It might also be helpful to let you know now that your best cure for a hangover is Gatorade.

People who you thought are your friends now may not be the ones who’ll stick up with you in the future. But over time, you will meet those who are for keeps. Many people will walk in and out of your life. You will lose touch with some people  over the years. But don’t worry, you will reconnect with them in the future through a new invention. It’s called Facebook.

On a more serious note,I will advice you to choose your decisions carefully. You know that you are a creative soul. Don’t waste your time doing something that you do not enjoy.

Let me say it straight that now  you are young and stupid. You will do regrettable things but it’s going to be okay. Don’t beat yourself up over past mistakes. Someday, you will look back and laugh about it. Believe me.

In the future, you will have the opportunity to travel. You will live in different countries and experience different cultures.  I will not tell you where exactly coz I don’t want to spoil the fun but I’m sure you’ll find this a very interesting prospect! (And yes, you will definitely see real snow).

You will also meet several guys along the road.  Some are sweet and sincere but some are just a total waste of time. You will experience how sweet love can be, but you will also have your heart broken several times. There will be nights when you’ll be crying yourself over heartbreaks but you will always manage to heal. Though wounded, you will always get back up.You are a strong woman. My advice is to love yourself more and learn to let go when it’s time to do so. Remember the lessons from all your experiences over the course of time. It will make you a better person.

You must be wondering if you will marry and who you’ll end up with – you will not be disappointed. I am very happy to report from the future that you will have a very handsome and very loving husband.  Remember that every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for a moment that is yet to come – the person who will make you happy like nobody else can (-:

Hope this helps the journey! Keep your passion for life alive!

Your older self

P.S. <Spoiler alert:  you will have another baby sister in 10 years! can you believe that?!>
